7. Bangunan UmumThe Governor of Batavia Anthony van Diemen (1593 - 1645)

Di antara gedung-gedung publik di Kanal Macan dihitung di tempat pertama adalah balai kota, yang dengan alun-alun sampai The watter-straat (Jalan Teh) atau Heeren- Straat. Selanjutnya, Sekolah Latin di Batavia yang umurnya pendek. Sekolah ini dibuka tahun 1642 pada pemerintahan Gubernur Jendral  Anthony van Diemen, dengan Rektor pendeta John Sterthemius dan selusin siswa. Façadenya berada di Tijgersgracht, tapi halaman - ada taman bermain yang besar dan sebuah rumah yang indah untuk rektor – terbuka ke belakang dengan gerbang batu ke Kanal Buaya.

Among the public buildings at Tiger was the town hall, of which square reached until the watter-straat (Tee Street) or Heeren- Straat. And then, the short age Latin School of Batavia. This school was opened in 1642 in the reign of Governor-General Anthony van Diemen, the rector was pastor John Sterthemius and a dozen students. Its façade was in Tiger Canal, but the yard - there was a large playground and a beautiful house for the rector – opened to the back side with a stone gateway to the Crocodile Canal.

Rumah-rumah di sepanjang kanal macan dimiliki orang-orang ternama. Bahkan ada rumah yang dimiliki oleh seorang Gubernur Jenderal atau mantan Gubernur Jenderal. Tuan Willem van Outhoorn contohnya, tinggal disini enam belas tahun sampai kematiannya. Dia tinggal di Tijgersgracht setelah putrinya menikah dengan direktur umum Joan van Hoorn. Dia sangat senang ketika menantunya itu menjadi gubernur, karena rumahnya di jaga  empat belas serdadu di bawah seorang letnan. Selain itu pernah tinggal Dirk van Cloon dan Reinier de Klerk.

6. Houses Owned by Notable PeopleA View from the Castle to Tiger Canal

The houses along the canal tiger were owned by famous people. In fact, there had been a house owned by a General Governor or former General Governor. Mr. Willem van Outhoorn for example, lived here sixteen years until his death. He lived in Tijgersgracht after his daughter was married to the general director Joan van Hoorn. He was very happy when his son in law became governor, since then his house was guarded by fourteen men under a lieutenant. Here also lived Dirk van Cloon and Reinier de Klerk.

Tapi ada kejadian ketika penghuni dari tepi Kanal Macan buru-buru ke rumahnya, dan kejadian ini sering berlanjut ke Kanal Buaya. Saat itulah para budak dari dalam rumah-rumah membawa tangki berisi feses (karena jamban belum ada) kemudian membuangnya ke tongkang Tionghoa di kanal itu. Jadi harum atau aroma bunga dari pepohonan  digantikan oleh bau amonia dari tongkang.

But there were occasions when the inhabitants of Tiger Canal rushed into the house, and often it continued into Crocodile Canal. That's when the slaves of the houses carrying a tank containing feces (because there are no latrines) and then threw it into a barge, owned by the Chinese, in the canal. So the fragrant or the scent of flowers from the trees was replaced by the smell of ammonia from the barge. This work was called Foela Novi Horas or "Flower Nine Hours" by the people of Batavia.

Lalu lintas Batavia berarti kanal-kanal yang memainkan peran utama sebagai prasarana tranportasi. Warga Kanal Macan sebagian besar memiliki perahu sendiri yang ditambatkan di luar rumahnya. Bagaikan Venesia yang mana gondola-gondola itu di tambatkan dari Grand Canal sampai ke istana bangsawan; di Batavia juga ada perahu dikemudikan tukang tongkang orang Tionghoa. Dengan bayaran dua sen perahu akan mengantar penumpang kemana saja.

Kanal Macan adalah tempat warga kota bersantai sampai malam. Mereka duduk di tepi kanal sambil merokok pipa, dan minum segelas anggur.

4. The TrafficTiger canal now the north Batavia Station

Traffic in Batavia was canels that played a major role as a transportation infrastructure. Residents of Tiger canal mostly have their own boats moored outside his home. Like Venetian gondolas which was at anchor off the Grand Canal to the palace of the nobility; In Batavia there were also boats rowed by Chinese boatman. With a fee of two cents the boat would had taken passengers anywhere.

Tiger canal was a place where the townsfolk relax until late in the evening. They sat on the edge of the canal while smoking a pipe and drinking a glass of wine.

Adalah Joan Nieuhoff seorang pelancong yang melakukan berbagai perjalanan mengakui segala kecantikan Batavia. Dia mengatakan di sepanjang jalan yang mengapit kanal ini di tanami pohon palem, kanalnya lebar yang dipinggirnya ditutup dengan batu dan di sepanjang jalan adalah bangunan rumah tembok dari batu yang indah.

Dekorasi rumah sering tidak dapat di hindari, itu adalah ciri khas kehidupan di Hindia Belanda yang menjadi cerminan dari karir penghuninya yang panjang.

3. The luxurious Tiger CanalTijgersgracht in Batavia Jakarta Old Town

Joan Nieuhoff was a traveler who journeyed to acknowledge the beauty of Batavia. He said along the way that flank the canal was planted with palm trees, alongside its wide canals covered with rocks and along the street was the beautiful houses of stone wall building.

Home decor often could not be avoided, it was typical of life in the Dutch East Indies to be a reflection of a long career inhabitants. The inhabitants have become increasingly tied to the earth Indies after married local women and bind themselves with a wedding ring. A sense of awe about the tiger canal was written as follows:
