Siang yang demikian terik tentunya akan menjadi segar dengan bir. Mereka berbincang bertiga menghabiskan tiga botol bir dan akhirnya Poh An dan Jing Bing minta pamit. Dokter Jan de Put mempersilahkan sinshe Tan beristirahat karena baru saja menempuh perjalanan yang panjang. Poh An mengantarkan Jing Bing ke kamarnya yang terletak dibelakang rumah sakit diantara tembok-tembok bangunan.

“Apakah kau akan istirahat?” tanya Poh An sambil meletakkan tas Jing Bing yang dibawanya.

In such a dog day afternoon would surely be fresh with beer. The three talked and had three bottles of beer. Finally Poh An and Jing Bing said good bye. Doctor Jan de Put let sinshe Tan to rest for he just had a long journey. Poh An accompanied Jing Bing went to his room which was located behind the hospital between the walls of the building.

"Are you going to rest?" Asked Poh An while putting Jing Bing’s bundle. "Tonight there will be Gambang Kromong at captain Nie Hoe Kong’s home as a welcoming reception for the Junk coming from Fujian you rode.

Poh An membawa Jing Bing kepada kepala Rumah Sakit Tionghoa Jan de Put yang ramah. Kamar dokter kepala ada di depan sebelah kiri. Dari gerbang ke kamarnya dihubungkan dengan selasar.

“Selamat siang dokter, ini Sinshe Tan Jing Bing yang kita tunggu.” kata Poh An begitu masuk kedalam ruang.

“Ah selamat datang sinshe Tan.” katanya dalam bahasa Melayu “Ni Hao Ma?” katanya lagi dalam bahasa Han Yu. Wajahnya berseri menyambut Jing Bing. Pipinya merah karena hatinya senang, Rambut bagian depan yang tipis kerap kali turun dan harus di betulkan.

Poh An brought Jing Bing to the head of the Chinese Hospital Jan de Put who was easy to talk with. Jan de Put’s room was at the left of the front side. From the gate to his room was connected with an open veranda.

"Good afternoon doctor, this is Sinshe Tan Jing Bing whom we are waiting for." Said Poh An right after entering the room.

"Ah welcome sinshe Tan," he said in Malay "Ni Hao Ma?" He said again in the language of Han Yu. His face beamed welcoming Jing Bing. His cheeks were red because happy, his thin front hair often went down and should be fixed.

Keduanya turun dari perahu, naik ke jalan dan memasuki gerbang rumah sakit. Rumah Sakit milik orang Tionghoa, Yang Tjee Ie - dalam bahasa Hokien -  atau Yangji Yuan - Dalam bahasa Han Yu - berdiri 1640 ini terletak di Rhinocergracht didekat sudut Utrechtsestraat, disebelah penjara wanita yang tertutup, beberapa blok dari Kalibesar. Bangunannya cukup besar dan diteduhi pohon kelapa. Dari jalan tampak tembok putih memanjang dengan pintu gerbang yang diukir, didalam tampak pekarangan yang luas dengan pohon-pohon peneduh. Rumah Sakit Yang Tjee Ie yang berlantai satu tampak megah.

Both of them got off the boat, up to the street and entered the hospital gates. The hospital belonged to the Chinese people, Yang Tjee Ie - in Hokienese - or Yangji Yuan - In Han Yu - established in 1640 was located in Rhinocergracht near the corner of Utrechtsestraat, next to the closed women's prison, a few blocks from Kalibesar. The building was quite large and shaded by coconut trees. From the street it looked elongated white wall with carved gate, the inside was large yard with shade trees. One storey Yang Tjee Ie hospital looked luxurious.

Itulah mengapa rumah sakit adalah pusat kehidupan dan bukannya balai kota yang dipenuhi penjara dan kekejaman terhadap yang terhukum. Rumah sakit adalah curahan  kasih sayang dari para pekerjanya terhadap pasien yang sekarat. Di rumah sakitlah segala persoalan, keberhasilan dan dampak politik kota bermuara. Penduduk sebuah kota belum tentu pernah mengunjungi balai kota tempat para politisi kota berada, banyak diantara mereka yang tidak pernah mengujungi gedung pengadilan atau penjara.

The city was life between a patient and a Sinshe at the hospital. That is why the hospital was the center of life rather than the town hall which was filled by prisons and atrocities against the inmate. The hospital was the outpouring of affection from workers on patients who were dying. At the hospital was all the problems, successes and political impact of the city emptied. Residents of a city was not necessarily visited the town hall where the city politicians were located, many of those never visited the courthouse or jail.

Keduanya berjalan menuju perahu kecil yang parkir ditepi kanal.

“Bagaimana dengan keluarga saudara-saudaraku di Fuqing?“ Tanya Poh An dengan penuh kerinduan.

“Mereka masih mampu melaut tetapi keadaan di Fuqing semakin tertindas oleh Manchu dan antek-anteknya”. Jawab Jing Bing.

“Kalau di Batavia orang Tionghoa di tindas penguasa Belanda. Disini Sejak 6 Maret 1730 orang Tionghoa  dilarang membuka losmen, rumah menginap, rumah madat dan toko yang baru.

Both men walked toward a small boat parked by the canal.

"What about my relatives in Fuqing?" Asked Poh An with longing.
